My life in Utah

We just got back from Rexburg after spending the weekend with Paige and Jacob, and we were probably the only people that went to Rexburg to visit. haha. Regardless, it was great! We had such a relaxing and fun weekend with them; we went to the temple, took a grand tour of the 'Burg, saw the Art department (lovely), ate some delicious ice cream at G's Dairy Delights, colored and excessive amount of Hello Kitty and Scooby Doo, and watched a few movies and just had a good time in their quaint little apartment. On Sunday, I was surprised (and frankly shouldn't have been) to see the mass amount of married students in her ward. In SLC I was apart of a small little student ward and then a family ward, so to see that many married couples in our same boat and age group, I envied it a bit. We are the youngest in our ward, and we're ok with that, we've got some great close friends and it's wonderful, really! but sometimes I envy and crave that college town vibe; to be surrounded by thousands of students and swimming in mass quantities of potential friendships and experiences. I am grateful for where I am and how I got here. I mean lets get real, I've had a great 2 years in Salt Lake working out life and making the friends I have now and forever will in my life (shout out to Milena and Taryn!) and for meeting Trevor and just enjoying where we are, living in Salt Lake is probably one of the most fun places. We are so close to everything. Then going to the U and landing a good job and living in the Aves, life's worked out for me in many aspects I really didn't plan for. In all honesty I just came to Salt Lake with really no plan and now I can see why moving to Salt Lake and going to LDSBC might have freaked out my mom a little since I didn't exactly follow in my siblings footsteps. Because Salt Lake is a relatively large city to let your 18 year old daughter move to and start at a school you hardly know about let along trust she'll be safe and smart in her decisions since it's a different kind of system than BYU's (more or less). You have a small school and no campus grounds to live on per se. All in all i'm extremely grateful for my experiences but with that you will always want something you never had and mine is that college town experience. A lot of people tell me how neat it is that I go to school in Salt Lake and that I married my husband there and so on, and in a lot of ways I am. I have been blessed on numerous times and have learned a lot about my little person called Meg. SO anyway, Rexburg was lovely, and I loved the weekend, it was really quite nice to go somewhere, anywhere for a few days.

In other news, I have started this new workout routine by Kayla Itsines, it's great and I love it. It's so quick and not so easy, but you get the workout done in a snap and then you have your off days to do cardio and cry. Not really. But it's really fun and actually I am seeing results whether it's all mental and I'm just trying to convince myself that in one week I've become this super fit person. As my co-worker, who's also doing it said, "Kayla is the biggest bully I have never met". That's because if you're super out of shape like we are, it's pretty much the thing you hate to love, but I guess all workout's are like that. So Emily and I have been motivating each other to do this workout and have been going to the gym and so far it's working out great and we love it. Soon me and Trevor will be in so shape it'll be insane *insert heavy sarcasm* (but mostly a preparatory for my little Birthday bash. I want it to be the year that I am at the top of my game and really at peace with how I look, feel and am as a person in general.

We've both started school and with open arms something always is a little off when I start a new semester, and this semester was missing my first class! hah I of course left it to the school to sort out my schedule and there was a little misunderstanding but all is well and I have worked it out and it's my last class, math. I just need to place myself mentally for this sojourn for a few months and then I am done. I just can't fully decide if I want to do a quick program that is around 2 years to get my bachelors at the U while Trevor is slaving there to get his Bachelors. I really have no idea, and I am the type that needs to go in with a definite plan or everything falls apart for me. Maybe I'll stick it out and enroll for a few classes here and there, but for right now I think a little break would be nice. Trevor's school on the other hand is in it for the long haul, we're hoping to peace out of Utah in 2018 or sooner if it all works out how I like it. He can get some classes out of the way by going to SLCC during the summer and kinda catch up in a way since his program classes are in hiatus in the summer. He's currently in a better state of mind now that he gets the flow of how the U works, which is wonderful. Also, I am hoping he will maybe quit his job and just go full time since the stars aligned for us with my job. Who knows though, it's tough to say since we are pretty comfortable with our plan and finances.

Now that I've bored you with that lengthy post. Here are some recent pictures.

Trevor was supposed to be taking a before picture of me

After my first leg / cardio day. I felt completely dead, well my legs did.

Snape is on my bus. No. Joke.

Probably the best ice cream I have ever had. There's caramel, almond, coconut scoop under that massive huckleberry scoop. Tasted like heaven... and 2 pounds.

My favorite people.

home.

We discovered a delicious quinoa broccoli casserole. but seriously we love it.
 num num num

second week on my leg / cardio. Yet again dead, it really does kick my buns.

Snap, look at the good couple.

So here I am back in my hamster wheel. We're doing our own thing and loving it.

Year of the Meg

As I was sitting in my bed shoving my face with 4 or 5 sweet tasting sticky buns on New Year's Eve I was reflecting on what I want to be and how I can make that happen so I've been seriously thinking about what my 2015 plan would be (and yes one was to be more healthy).  You know the usual resolutions, I've tried and failed, I was never one for follow through; I'm more of the go with the flow / come what may type with the occasional planning, probably more planning than I realize. But as I thought about what I want to do and who I want to be I realized that I just need to figure out who Meghan is.

Over the past two years, since I left the beloved PNW and ventured to SLC everyone has questioned my age, like let's get real, even I am even beginning to be surprised that I am only 20. What?! I never realized how mature I came across or shy / quiet. Either way I just want this whole year to be the Year of Meg. (Never fear, Trevor is in it with me) But I take that with a smile and accept it as a compliment. I like the way I am, I just want to grow a little more.

I think it's important to figure out you, to do you. Embrace it. Find it. Live it. It's ever changing and it's great to know what you like and I haven't quite figured it out. I know I'm young and I have all these years ahead of me to figure out me, but I'd like to see what I like now in my twenties. I am slowly moving towards a better me and all that good stuff.

So in 2015 I hope to:

try new things
(coming July 6)

start a new yoga routine
(find my inner chi)

read the book of mormon
(CTR)

&

to just be positive and happy in the moment

and this guy ^^^
will be with me working towards some goals we have as a couple.

Transition

so we meet again,
It's been a long time since i posted about our riveting life, i know most all of you have been in desperate need of some update on our livelihood. nothing too fascinating is lingering around these neck of our woods; we've completed a long, grueling semester and are we happy it's past us. Trevor was a champ and did about 90% of my ruthless InDesign class, that made me crazy.

We are just madly in love over here and loving each step of the way we go. It's been a learning curve of marriage for the both of us but as the cliche goes "i wouldn't trade it for anything". So since October we've been really boring and just dedicated every waking hour devoted to keeping ourselves alive / working / getting that "marketable education" (-Gramps).

With some really fun stops inbetween our regular days. So let me start and look at my pictures for the timeline of everything. (thank goodness Apple puts time stamps on pictures, i really don't know where i'd be without that).

End of October
I managed to lock us out of car / house, what can i say, it's a gift. We also got super festive with our costume's this year. This year we just dressed as our usual selves which may incur to some as "hipsters" hah whatev's i'll reject that with glad tidings that i secretly agree with but wont openly agree because who does that?

November
Some football here and some family thrown in there with some sunrises on the way. Trevor found inspiration in a Warren Buffet poster in Jimmy Johns.

Mark played this game called Resistance Avalon (total nerd game) on a vaca he took and introduced it to the family. It's like mafia but with much nerdier players name of which i can't quite remember) but i recommend it, really brings out the best in people, really get to know their many faces of lying.

my dad's a gem.

December

A perfect parking job done by the one and only Trevor. Some basketball (i'm always up for a game). Finals week is over! and we had our first Christmas.

Yes, Trevor can be "that guy" that parks the car in a horrific manor that makes you want to key his car. In his defense there was one before him that made him park like so...

As soon as we got home from thanksgiving we found a place in the Avenues, and we are thrilled to be living here. We taught our last sunbeams class and we will miss that ward and our first place together but life moves on and the memories stay.

some simple Christmas gifts

Let me just talk about these for a minute. Sticky buns are a staple to Christmas in the Moffat family along with cider. Basically these are butterscotch / caramel / nuts and cherry covered happiness. A comfort food really, and loaded with sugar and calories that will go straight to the well cared for muffin top and tummy.

We figured out we are not the couple that will secretly buy gifts and wrap them all perfectly and then give them to each other with a cheesy grin. We went shopping together, casually told each other what we wanted, for example:

"ohh, i really love this bag!" *wink wink* or "snap, this sweater compliments my eyes" *cough cough*

then myself or Trevor will walk away and we will make the necessary purchases it and we fake the cause of surprise and all is well. It works out quite well for us. Some other gifts made the cut such as some really nice gifts from the in law's some place mats, a complimenting scarf, much needed slippers for Trevor, and a special thanks to Jen for the great gifts! (that pillow though hah)
We had the Casey's over for Christmas because I couldn't weasel a few days off to venture to California but it turned out great. We had a Moffat style dinner (aka standard mormon dinner according to Trevor's sister Jen hah) thrown in with some homemade ravioli's per the Casey tradition and it was great, we strolled around Temple Square and just hung out.  It was great, it was nice having them over to see where are current stomping grounds are.

As 2014 comes to a close, i'm really excited for 2015

trying new things

I've had my mind on a few things that I would like to improve and try and just change about my life and self.
For starters, food. I know it's an acquired skill, but let me be real, looking for recipes and shopping for food doesn't really excite me {like it does for some}. But I think it's rewarding when I find a good recipe and make it and it's good.

So, for Sunday dinner I made this deliciously easy chili from Pioneer Woman. I loved it, Trevor loved it, it was a hit tonight! I'm quite pleased with myself and it's an improvement from just a few months ago.

Chipotle Chicken Chili

Next, i think i'm going to start yoga. I have stalked every corner of Instagram of people who have self-taught yoga, taken classes, and their progress pictures. There's a handful of benefits from yoga, and i figured that if i write this down then i would commit to it. I like that yoga is individual sport, personal progress, and meditative. I'm not fat or fit, i do need a bit of toning and some serious flexibility in my life, plus it's great for posture and since I carry all of my stress in my shoulders i just see a win-win for this. Maybe for my New Year's resolution or end of the semester goal, whenever i start i will be tracking my progress and see where i am at every 6 months. Trevor said this is my hippie side coming out, because I have been chatting his ear off about everything in the infographic below.

Lastly, confidence. It goes hand-in-hand with the first two. I find that i don't trust myself enough to follow through on things. I expect myself to be good at something from the get go. But as time tells it's practice and trusting myself that i can do hard things. I get discouraged and feel as if i can't get it right the first time then it's not worth it to pursue it. Not out of laziness but more so out of fear and lack of confidence. So here's to trying new things and seeing where it takes me.
